15th Anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act

In recognition of the 15th anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act, UNIFEM-USNC President Carol Poteat-Buchanan attended a reception at the home of Vice President Joe and Dr. Jill Biden in Washington, DC on September 29th.  It was a tremendous honor for USNC to be included in this intimate gathering of 100 guests.  Carol spoke with Vice President Biden about the work of UNIFEM and the US National Committee and recognized his ongoing stance on this vital issue.  Vice President Biden spoke passionately about the need to prevent violence against women and children and noted that in addition to eliminating this scorage nationally, we also need to work on the international level.  Read More About IVAWA...

 

 


The William J. Clinton Foundation Names the UN Trust Fund As One of Its Key Action Items

On September 30, UNIFEM-USNC President Carol Poteat-Buchanan represented UNIFEM-USNC at a private reception in Sarasota, Florida for the William J. Clinton Foundation.  The Clinton Global Initiative is funded through this foundation which focuses on several action areas including investing in women and girls.  Fortuitously, one of the action areas this year is the support of the UN Trust Fund to Eliminate Violence Against Women which is managed by UNIFEM.  Carol was able to speak with the former President about the Trust Fund as well as the US National Committee's interest in partnering with the foundation on this issue.
